What is Hypnosis? |
 |
Hypnosis was accepted as a viable form of treatment by the British Medical Association in 1955 and the
American Medical Association in 1958. It is one of the most ancient forms of healing, and has been used as
a tool that has helped many individuals make changes throughout the centuries.
Hypnotism induces a super relaxed and suggestive state of mind, which enables the hypnotist to communicate
with your subconscious mind, directly bypassing any doubt or critical thinking of conscious mind. Your
subconscious mind does not judge, doubt, or criticize new suggestion/messages but simply accepts and stores
it.
|
How does Hypnosis actually work? |
 |
Hypnosis alters our state of consciousness in such a way that the analytical left-hand side of our brain is
turned off, while the non-analytical right-hand side is made more alert.
The conscious control of the mind is inhibited and subconscious mind awoken. Since the subconscious mind
(making up 88% of your brain) is a deeper-seated, more instinctive force than the conscious mind (making up
12% of your brain), this is the part which has to change for the patient's behaviour and physical state to
alter. For example, a patient who consciously wants to overcome their fear of flying may try everything
they consciously can to do it, but will still fail as long as their subconscious mind retains this terror
and prevents the patient from succeeding. Therefore Hypnotherapy aims to re-programme patterns of behaviour
within the sub conscious mind, enabling irrational fears, phobias, negative thoughts, bad habits and
suppressed emotions to be overcome.
